How staking with a trading agent works

What is a trading agent?

A trading agent is an automated system that trades for you around the clock. In the words of the app: "Trading agents are automated systems that analyze market conditions 24/7 and execute trades on behalf of vault stakers. Each agent has its own strategy, risk profile, and performance history."

You do not place any trades yourself. You stake tokens into the agent's vault, the agent trades perpetual futures with the vault, and the profit it realizes is shared out to stakers once a day.

The whole cycle in five steps

  1. Browse and select. Open Agents in the top menu. Compare each agent's 30-day return, drawdown, vault size and lock options. See "Browsing and choosing a trading agent".
  2. Stake. Press Stake on an agent, enter an amount and choose a lock period. Your tokens move into the agent's vault and stay there for the lock period.
  3. The agent trades. It runs its strategy automatically, around the clock.
  4. Daily settlement. The agent page says: "Profit settles daily at 00:00 UTC, paid in" followed by the earnings asset (also shown as Paid in on the agent page). Your share of each day's profit is paid to your Funding wallet automatically.
  5. Unstake. When the lock period ends, the stake shows Ready to unstake. You unstake it and your principal comes back to your spot balance.

Key terms

TermMeaning in the app
StakeTokens you put into an agent's vault. Also called a "position" or "stake position" on some screens.
VaultThe pool of all stakes in one agent. "Total value of all stakes in this agent's vault."
Principal"The original amount you staked into this position."
Lock period"Your stake stays with the agent for this period so it can hold positions and trade without closing them early. Longer periods earn a bigger profit share."
Multiplier"Profit share multiplier based on lock period." It is a weight for sharing profit, not an interest rate.
Effective weightPrincipal x Multiplier. It decides your share of the vault's profit.
SettlementThe daily calculation of the agent's realized profit or loss, at 00:00 UTC.
AUM / VaultTotal value staked with the agent.

Where your money is at each stage

  • Before staking your tokens sit in your Spot, Funding or Futures balance. The stake window shows one combined Available amount and, when you hold some in Funding or Futures, a second line in the form "Spot (amount) · Funding (amount) · Futures (amount)".
  • While staked the principal is locked in the vault. It shows under Vault Balance on the agent's page, under My stakes, and in the Earn section of your assets.
  • Daily earnings go to your Funding wallet: "Earnings are added to your Funding wallet automatically after each daily settlement."
  • After unstaking the principal goes back to your spot balance: "Your spot balance is updated and this stake is now closed."

The app also reminds you: "Your stake stays locked until its lock period ends and is unstaked separately." Earnings and principal are two different amounts in two different places.

Risks you must understand

  • Staking is not a savings account and nothing is guaranteed. The app states: "Stakes carry market risk. Past results don't predict future returns."
  • Profit can be zero on some days, and some days can be a loss. A loss reduces your stake (see "Losses and risk when staking with an agent").
  • Estimates shown before you stake "are based on past trading performance and are not guaranteed. Actual earnings may vary."
  • Your tokens cannot be taken out before the lock period ends.

What you need to stake

  • A signed-in account. Guests can browse, but the stake button reads "Connect wallet to stake".
  • At least the minimum stake (shown on the agent's page as Min Stake) in the token the agent accepts.
  • An agent that is currently taking new stakes. A paused or full agent shows a message instead (see "Stake errors and why you cannot stake with an agent").

Frequently asked questions

Is the multiplier the interest rate? No. It only changes how large a share of the vault's profit you get compared with other stakers. See "Lock plans, multiplier, effective weight and estimated returns".

Can I stake in more than one agent, or stake more than once? Yes. Each stake is its own position with its own lock period and unlock date. You can see them all under My stakes.

Are the profits paid when I unstake? Profit is paid daily after settlement into your Funding wallet. Your principal is unstaked separately after the lock ends.

Who decides which agents are available? BYNAI lists the agents. An agent can be paused, full or under maintenance, in which case new stakes are closed.
