How to set take profit and stop loss on an open position

Take Profit closes your position automatically when the price reaches your profit target. Stop Loss closes it automatically when the price moves against you. You can attach both to a position you already hold. (To attach TP/SL while placing a new order, see Reduce-only and TP/SL on orders.)

Neither is a guaranteed exit price. The risk page says: "Stop and conditional orders do not guarantee an exit price."

Where to find it

  1. Open the futures trading page and the Positions tab.
  2. In the column TP/SL for position you see two small lines: TP and SL, each showing the current trigger price or "--" if none is set.
  3. Click the pencil icon next to them (named Set TP/SL) or, on phones and tablets, the TP/SL control on the position card. The window TP/SL for entire position opens.

You can also see your TP/SL orders in the Open Orders tab (see Futures orders and trades history).

Step by step

  1. Read the notice at the top: "In a rapidly changing market, setting a stop-loss trigger close to the liquidation price may result in the order failing to execute."
  2. Check the summary rows: Symbol (for example "BTCUSDT Perpetual / Long 10x"), Entry Price and Mark Price.
  3. For Take Profit, choose the trigger price type: Mark or Last (drop-down labelled "Trigger Price Type"). Mark uses the mark price, Last uses the last traded price.
  4. Enter the trigger price. Next to it is a second box with a drop-down: PnL, ROE% or Offset%. Typing in either box fills the other one, so you can think in price, profit amount, return in percent, or percent distance from your entry price.
  5. The hint under the box shows what will happen, for example: "When Mark Price reaches 65000, a Take Profit Market order will close this position. Estimated PnL: 120.50".
  6. Do the same for Stop Loss. Its hint reads "When Mark Price reaches 60000, a Stop Market order will close this position. Estimated PnL: -80.00".
  7. Press Confirm.

You can set only a take profit, only a stop loss, or both. When the trigger price is reached, a market order closes the position (or the part you chose), so the actual fill can differ from the trigger price.

Several levels (partial take profit / stop loss)

  • Click Add TP level to add more take-profit levels, or Add SL level for stop-loss levels. Up to 5 levels are allowed for each.
  • Each level has a Qty slider and box in percent of your position. When you add or remove levels the percentages are redistributed; you can change them.
  • The total for take profit levels cannot go above 100%, and the same for stop loss. Otherwise you see "Total TP quantity exceeds 100%" or "Total SL quantity exceeds 100%".
  • Use the x on a level (labelled Delete) to remove it.
  • One level covering 100% closes the entire position when triggered. Several levels, or a level under 100%, close only the share you set.

Change or remove TP/SL

Open the same window again. The current values are filled in. Change the price, type or quantity and press Confirm, or delete a level. The app updates the existing order when it can; otherwise it places the new order first and then cancels the old one, so your position is not left without protection during the change. To remove a TP/SL completely, cancel its order in the Open Orders tab.

You can also cancel a TP/SL order from the Open Orders tab. In Open Orders you can change just the trigger price with the edit control in the Trigger Conditions column. The window Edit Trigger Price lets you confirm the new price ("Trigger price updated" on success, "Failed to update trigger price" on failure), with a box "Don't show again" for the confirmation.

Price Protection on stop orders

The Edit Trigger window shows "Price Protection": "Helps prevent your stop order from being triggered by sudden price spikes or manipulation." and "When the difference between last price and mark price exceeds 5%, stop orders will not be triggered." If you see a "Stop Price (Adjusted)" row, the price was adjusted by the system.

What happens when they trigger

You get a pop-up notice: Take Profit Triggered then Take Profit Executed, or Stop Loss Triggered then Stop Loss Executed. After it fills, the position (or the share) closes and you can see it in Position History and Trade History. If another TP/SL is still pending after the position is closed, check Open Orders and cancel what you no longer need.

FAQ

Can I set TP/SL with Reduce-Only on? TP/SL inside the order form is unavailable when Reduce-Only is on ("TP/SL is unavailable when Reduce-Only is enabled"), but you can still set TP/SL on the position from the Positions tab.

Mark or Last? Mark follows the mark price (the fair-value price used for liquidation and unrealized PnL). Last follows the most recent trade on the contract. Pick the one you want your trigger to follow; the fill price is not guaranteed either way.

Why did my stop not trigger? The price may not have reached your trigger on the chosen price type, or the 5% price-protection rule applied. Check the Trigger Conditions column.

Why did my position close at a worse price than my trigger? Triggered TP/SL orders become market orders and can slip in fast markets.

My vouchers. If the position was opened with a voucher, setting TP/SL in the order form is blocked ("Remove TP/SL to use a voucher.").

When to contact Support

Send the contract, side, the trigger price and type (Mark or Last) you set, the time it should have triggered, a screenshot of the TP/SL window and of the Open Orders or Order History row, and the exact message shown.

Safety reminder

A stop loss close to your liquidation price may not execute in time. Never share your password, 2FA code, seed phrase or private key with anyone.
